Jonathan Huberdeau's trade to Calgary sent shockwaves across the NHL after Matthew Tkachuk's name dominated news reels for over a week. No one really expected Huberdeau to be traded at all. He had spent his entire career thus far with the Florida Panthers after being drafted 3rd overall in 2011, scoring 613 points in 671 games.

With a new GM & a brutal exit from the playoffs, Huberdeau's time in Florida is over. And he had a beautiful message:

"I swear it's not easy to write this today but I wanted to thank everyone who reached out to me the past couple of days, it warms my heart seeing how many people care about me and support me! I won't lie it was rough to hear the news, but at the end of the day hockey is a business and these things happened!

First of all, l'd like to thank the florida panthers organization for believing in me when I was 18! This place will always be my 2nd home, and I'm grateful They gave me a chance to play in the best league in the world.

To the Panthers Fans, thank you so much for giving me a great hockey experience. know lots of people say florida is not a great hockey market, but I've seen the atmosphere the past couple years and it's all because of you guys! Thank you for all your support and being so faithful.

Love you all

Me and my family are ready for the next chapter in my life, and I'm looking forward to it!

I'm excited for the opportunity to play in Calgary, in front of passionate Canadian fans!

Here we go!!

Yee Haw"

Huberdeau has already stated publicly he would be open to signing a deal with the Calgary Flames, as did fellow tradee Mackenzie Weegar. The former Saint John Sea Dog scored a 115 points last season & has scored at a 100-point pace in three of the last four seasons. The Flames made out like bandits trading for Huberdeau & Weegar, as they turned an unfortunate situation to their advantage. Tidy work for Flames GM Brad Treliving.
