Bobby Ryan Arrested at Nashville International Airport
This is a tough story to report. Bobby Ryan's story is difficult to digest, but is as inspirational as they come.
Retired NHLer Bobby Ryan was arrested this week at Nashville International Airport for public intoxication.
Ryan was reportedly very intoxicated, and he shoplifted a few items from an airport general store. Upon exiting the shop, security cameras observed Ryan placing the items on a counter before heading to a bar nearby. Authorities approached the 2020 Bill Masterton recipient & noted that he was extremely intoxicated. He was charged with public intoxication, but saw the charges dropped after the standard 8 hour drunk tank stint.
After entering the NHL's player assistance program for substance addiction, Bobby Ryan continues to work his way through his issues. As mentioned, this was not an easy story to read & especially to write. I have always respected Bobby Ryan & always will.
With an abusive & maniacal father, Bobby Ryan's talent in the sport of hockey saved him from a fate no kid deserves, yet so many suffer under. His ascent to the NHL overshadowed his upbringing, and it was not until the last leg of his playing career that his underlying trauma became known.
