The Arizona Coyotes have hired 3x Cup champ John Madden as an Assistant Coach:

Madden most recently served the last two seasons as an Assistant Coach for the San Jose Sharks. Before going to SJ, Madden was the Head Coach for the Cleveland Monsters, AHL Affiliate for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

"I'm very excited to join André's coaching staff," said Madden. "The Coyotes have a lot of young talent and are building something special in Arizona. I'm really looking forward to being a part of it and can't wait to get started:"

For all the ridicule befalling the Arizona Coyotes recently, they are quietly building a strong pipeline & a quality group of coaches/executives. GM Bill Armstrong rose through the ranks of the St. Louis Blues organization from 2004 until he was hired by the Coyotes in 2020. Armstrong, in his first two seasons, has dealt patiently considering the poor hand he was dealt. But to show for his composure, the Coyotes now boast a prospect group including Logan Cooley, Dylan Guenther, Conor Geekie, and Maveric Lamoureux.

Armstrong is joined by Coyotes legend Shane Doan, the longtime Captain for the franchise. Doan's acumen for leadership & educating young players landed him the role of Chief Hockey Development Officer in Arizona. With the Coyotes midway through a tough rebuild, Doan's wisdom could provide enormous returns for the Coyotes.

Their coaching staff is looking strong too, especially with Madden's hiring today. André Tourigny's résumé is impressive, with only four losing seasons since 2004 dating back to his start in the QMJHL. Now Madden, joined by Cory Stillman & Mario Duhamel join Tourigny to guide the Desert Dogs through the Sahara Desert of rebuilds.

The Coyotes are slated to play in a college arena the next two seasons, they don't really have any chance of being competitive, and even with their prospect pool their fans don't have much to hang onto at the moment. So the next two seasons won't be fun. But Connor Bedard or Matvei Michkov could be very, very fun.
