Hockey Canada has outlined severe consequences for any player who refuses to participate in an investigation into allegations of sexual assault on a woman back in 2018. The allegations stem from a celebration held in Ontario following the 2018 World Juniors gold medal win. Danielle Robitaille of Henein Hutchison LLP, the law firm hired to conduct a third party investigation into the way the allegations were handled, told members of parliament that any player who refuses to participate in the investigation will receive a lifetime ban from Hockey Canada and it will be made public.

Robitaille added that 10 players have already participated in the third-party investigation. Nine players refused to do so until a police investigation that's underway was wrapped up. She said the legal representatives for the remaining nine players have been contacted and she expects to conduct interviews with them "imminently". Three players from the 2018 gold medal winning World Juniors team - Victor Mete, Cale Clague and Jordan Kyrou - were not at the gala event where the assault allegedly took place.

At issue is not just the assault, but the aftermath. Hockey Canada decided to settle a lawsuit with the complainant with very little investigation done to determine what actually took place and who might have been involved. No names have ever been mentioned. The Government of Canada, which provides funding to Hockey Canada, is not pleased with the organization and has called members before a parliamentary committee is an attempt to get answers.
