A tough go for former Toronto Maple Leafs fourth rounder Ian Scott. The goaltender has announced via his Instagram account that he's hanging up his pads at just 23 years old due to multiple injuries.

"No athlete wants to make this kind of post but I have decided to step away from playing hockey. Over the past few years I've been battling injuries and working hard to get back to full playable health but unfortunately I have decided to take a step back & start a new life chapter." Ian Scott

Scott went on to praise the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League for all their support, adding it was the best place to play Junior hockey. He also thanked the Toronto Marlies of the AHL and Toronto Maple Leafs "for drafting me and and all the opportunities to chase my dream of playing pro."

Since 2020, Scott has managed just 8 games at the ECHL and AHL levels because of his injuries. He missed the entire 2019-20 season because of a hip injury and then COVID-19. He managed to play one period of one game with the ECHL's Newfoundland Growlers this past season before injuries forced him to the sidelines again.

Scott was the CHL's Goaltender of the Year in 2018-19, which would have been the last time he played a full season of competitive hockey. He was then drafted 110th overall and was one of the top 10 prospects in the Maple Leafs' system before his injuries. We wish him all the best going forward.
