The Pittsburgh Penguins announced late on Tuesday night that they've agreed to terms on a four-year contract worth $24.4 million ($6.1 million AAV) with star forward Evgeni Malkin.

"Evgeni is a generational talent who will be remembered as one of the greatest players in NHL history," said Penguins General Manager Ron Hextall. "His hockey resume and individual accomplishments speak volumes about him as a player, and we are thrilled to watch him continue his remarkable legacy in Pittsburgh."

Malkin, 35, is arguably one of the best players in Pittsburgh Penguins franchise history. The Magnitogorsk native was drafted by the team second overall in 2004 and has been a mainstay on their roster since the 2006-07 season.

In 981 career games as a Penguin, Malkin has 1,146 points (444 goals, 702 assists), 1,008 penalty minutes and is a plus-59. He's also put up 180 points in 177 Stanley Cup Playoff games. Malkin has won the Stanley Cup three times, in 2009, 2016 and 2017.

For the past few days now, it's seemed that Malkin was going to test the open market on Wednesday, so the news of him re-signing with the Penguins comes as a bit of a shock.
