Johnny Gaudreau's time as a Calgary Flame has come to a close. According to Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceoff, Gaudreau informed the Flames that he will not be returning to Calgary and will test the free agent market when it opens at noon ET on Wednesday.

"Johnny Gaudreau informed the #Flames he will not be returning to Calgary. Emotional conversation for both sides, as the Flames rolled out the red carpet to keep him.

A massive offer was presented, as we reported, but this wasn't about money." Seravalli said.

Gaudreau, 28, has spent his entire career with the Calgary Flames, dating back to his NHL debut in the spring of 2014. In 602 games with Calgary, Gaudreau had 609 points (210 goals, 399 assists), 132 penalty minutes and is a plus-85. He set career-highs in goals (40), assists (75) and points (115) during the 2021-22 season.

This is a massive loss for the Calgary Flames organization and it could cause a trickle down effect. Matthew Tkachuk is a restricted free agent this summer and has been issued a qualifying offer. Given that Gaudreau is leaving, will Tkachuk want to stay or could the Flames move his rights? Only time will tell.
