The Detroit Red Wings announced on Friday morning that they've acquired goaltender Ville Husso from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a third round pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

Husso was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 13th, but according to Chris Johnston of TSN, the Red Wings have signed the 27-year-old to a three-year contract worth $14.25 million ($4.75 million AAV).

This good move for Detroit, but a bit of a puzzling one. They have Alex Nedeljkovic, 2022 World Championship MVP Jussi Olkinuora and arguably one of the best goaltending prospects in the league, Sebastian Cossa.

In 40 games this season for the Blues, the Helsinki native had a record of 25-7-6 with a 2.56 GAA, a .919 save percentage and two shutouts.
