Some more troubling news is coming out of Russia, this time involving former Philadelphia Flyer Mikhail Vorobyov.

According to Russian media outlet, Championat, Vorobyov and two other KHL players have been charged with bribery in order to evade mandatory military service.

Note: the following is translated from Russian.

"The source reports that the athletes turned to businessman Farit Samigullin, who transferred the money to the deputy military commissar for the Ordzhonikidzevsky and Kalininsky districts of Ufa. The mediator was taken in April of this year, later he was transferred from the pre-trial detention center to house arrest. Thanks to his testimony, the investigators found the hockey players who had given the bribe, as well as the head of the draft department, Konstantin Voropaev."

If Vorobyov, along with Anvar Suleimanov (Salavat Yuleav Ufa) and Vladislav Lukin (Admiral Vladivostok) are found guilty, they could face up to twelve years in prison.

The 25-year-old was drafted by the Flyers back in 2015 and spent 35 games with them between the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. He returned to Russia in 2020 and spent the 2021-22 campaign with SKA St. Petersburg.
