The 2022 NHL Draft host city, Montreal, is making big moves early in the draft. In addition to taking Juraj Slafkovský first overall, the Canadiens also made two trades before the 4th overall selection was made.

The Canadiens traded away young defenseman Alexander Romanov and the 98th overall pick for the 13th overall pick from the New York Islanders. Montreal then traded that 13th overall pick and the 66th pick for Chicago Blackhawks young centerman Kirby Dach.

Kirby Dach will provide some much needed depth at center for the Montreal Canadiens. In his three years of NHL action, Dach has provided the Hawks with 19 goals, 40 assists for 59 points in 152 games played. The former third overall pick has shown some glints of brilliance, but the Blackhawks seem to have run out of patience with his development.
