Per semi-retired TSN Insider Bob McKenzie, the Chicago Blackhawks will not tender a qualifying offer to RFA Dylan Strome. Strome, the 2015 3rd overall draft pick, took some time to find his groove in the NHL but has developed a strong scoring touch over his past four seasons, posting 154 points in his last 225 games (.68 points/game). And if you consider his 2020-21 campaign (17 points in 40 games) an outlier, his averages are even better.

His profile, courtesy of JFresh Hockey, tells a fairly accurate story; a shoot-first forward with fairly strong 200-foot play driving who takes more penalties than he draws. One might like to see better powerplay production, but Chicago's powerplay wasn't exactly an area of strength this season.

Strome will become an unrestricted free agent on July 13, assuming the Blackhawks do not submit a qualifying offer, for which the deadline is July 11. While that possibility remains open, McKenzie reports that it is unlikely. Which is surprising, one would think a team like Chicago would at least look to sign Strome & flip him for future assets. Curious. Combine this news with the Alex DeBrincat trade & reports that Kirby Dach could be moved, it appears the Blackhawks are headed straight for a rebuild. So, why they wouldn't attempt to yield a return for Strome is a bit of a head scratcher. Nevertheless, we will see where Strome ends up this summer.
