We have our first trade on NHL draft day. The Colorado Avalanche announced that they've acquired goaltender Alexandar Georgiev from the New York Rangers in exchange for a third and fifth round picks in 2022, as well as a third round pick in 2023.

The 26-year-old is set to become a restricted free agent next week and this move likely signals that Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic may not be able to bring back Stanley Cup winning netminder Darcy Kuemper. Kuemper is an unrestricted free agent as of 12 p.m. ET on July 13th.

In 33 games for the Rangers this season, the Ruse (Bulgaria) native posted a record of 15-10-2 with a 2.92 GAA, an .898 save percentage and two shutouts.

As for the Rangers, they'll be on the lookout for a veteran backup netminder to play behind Igor Shesterkin next season. There will be plenty of options on the open market for GM Chris Drury, including Thomas Greiss, Jaroslav Halak, Braden Holtby, among others.
