One thing's for certain, most hockey fans feel Alexander Mogilny belongs in the Hockey Hall of Fame, and the fact that he was snubbed again this year has many throwing their hands up in the air. Mogilny was one of the most talented and accomplished forwards of his era, a Stanley Cup champion, and won many individual awards. Not only that, but Mogilny broke a major barrier in the NHL, becoming the very first draftee to defect from the former Soviet Union to play in North America. In short, he's been passed over for years despite that fact that he's very deserving of the HOF honour. So, why is that happening? According to one journalist, there's a major reason.

"I've written this before and it bears repeating: A chief reason Alexander Mogilny gets snubbed is because there's a feeling he won't participate in any of the induction activities. He didn't come to Buffalo in 2016 for Greater Buffalo Sports HOF. It's how he rolls." - Mike Harrington, Buffalo News Sports

If you're looking for a better reason as to why Mogilny won't participate in the ceremony or the activities that come with it than "it's how he rolls", it seems to be as much as we're getting. It may be that he's not that comfortable with these types of public appearances, he doesn't think they're that big of a deal, or anything in between. Bottom line, it's difficult to completely disagree with the decision to put your votes elsewhere when you know the person you would vote for won't show up for the occasion.

Mogilny, 53, is still actively involved in the world of hockey. He is the current president of Amur Khabarovsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) in Russia. During his time in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, New Jersey Devils, and Toronto Maple Leafs, Mogilny scored 473 goals and 1,032 points in 990 games. He won a Cup with New Jersey in 2000 and was the league's goal scoring leader (tied with Teemu Selanne) with 76 in 1993. He scored 30+ goals in eight seasons in the NHL.
