Auston Matthews Wins Hart Memorial Trophy

Auston Matthews added to his trophy case for a second time this evening by winning the Hart Memorial Trophy (along with the Ted Lindsay award). This trophy goes to the most valuable player to his team in the National Hockey League. He is the first Leaf in 67 years to claim the MVP trophy.

In 73 games played, Matthews tallied a league leading 60 goals (Rocket Richard Trophy winner) along with 46 assists for a total of 106 points. His point total was good enough sixth in point totals in the league. Matthews improved his defensive game as well. Many believed he should have been considered for the Selke. Matthews is also a finalist for the Hart Memorial Trophy.
