Cale Makar Wins Norris Memorial Trophy

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar won the 2022 Norris Memorial Trophy. This trophy is given to 'the NHL's top defenseman who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position.' This is Makar's first Norris trophy. He is the first Avalanche to win this award and he can put it on his shelf alongside the 2019-20 Calder Memorial Trophy.

In 77 games played, Makar had an amazing 28 goals 58 assists for 86 total points. Makar ranked first in goals and second in points among defenseman in the league. He was a +48 and averaged 25:40 time on ice. Makar is still busy on the ice heading into Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He is among the favorites to win the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoffs MVP.
