Detroit Red Wings' defenseman Moritz Seider won the 2022 Calder Memorial Trophy. The Calder Memorial Trophy is given 'to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the NHL.' This is the first time in 57 years that a Red Wing has won the trophy.

Seider had 7 goals and 43 assists for 50 points in his first NHL season. The 21 year old had 161 blocked shots, 151 hits, and averaged 23:03 time on ice.

Seider had jokes during his admittedly unprepared acceptance speech saying, 'Try to go with the flow and not mess it up.... My parents aren't here tonight. They thought vacation was more important.'
