The National Hockey League has hosted games in countries other than the United States and Canada dating back to 1938 when the Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings played nine games in England and France.

Since then, the NHL has made stops in Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Czechia, Russia, Latvia, Ukraine, Slovakia, Northern Ireland, Japan, China and Puerto Rico.

The NHL continues to look for ways to make their game as global as possible and one way they're looking to do so is by hosting a game in Mexico featuring the Arizona Coyotes.

During an appearance on Craig Morgan's radio show, Arizona Coyotes CEO and President Xavier Gutierrez mentioned that he will be involved in meetings with the National Hockey League later this summer in regards to a potential game in Mexico.

Having the Coyotes participate makes sense for multiple reasons, including the fact that Gutierrez is the NHL's first Latino CEO and President, as well at the first Latino minority owner of a franchise. As for a potential opponent, the Dallas Stars could be a good fit, as would the Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks or Vegas Golden Knights.

Speaking of international games, just as a reminder, the NHL's Global Series is returning this Fall for the first time since 2019. The Nashville Predators will play an exhibition game against SC Bern on October 3rd, then the San Jose Sharks will face Eisbaren Berlin on October 4th.

The Predators and Sharks will open the NHL's 2022-23 season with a pair of games in Prague on October 7th and 8th. A month later, the Columbus Blue Jackets and Colorado Avalanche will face off in a back-to-back in Tampere (Finland).
