Shane Wright is less than three weeks away from being selected in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft in Montreal and it's very likely that the hosts will use the first overall pick to draft the dynamic centerman.

In an interview with Sportsnet's Sean Reynolds, Wright said that he believes he can make an impact in the National Hockey League right now.

"I think I am. I really do. Just based off watching out there, it's fast. It's going to be an adjustment at the start. The biggest thing is going to be the speed and just kind of learning the league," Wright said.

The Burlington (Ontario) native went on to say that he would obviously like to be taken first overall by the Canadiens, but it's out of his hands. Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes left an impression on Wright during a dinner recently, Wright mentioned.

"It's in the hands of Montreal and their management. I obviously would like to be the first-overall pick, but at the end of the day, it's not my decision." Wright said.

When talking about the dinner/meeting he had with Kent Hughes, Wright added, "I really love what they're all about, what they were saying about the city and describing the organization and describing where they want to go in the future and them wanting to build a winning franchise.

I obviously want to be a part of that and just really enjoyed how it went overall."

Wright, 18, spent the 2021-22 season in the Ontario Hockey League as the captain of the Kingston Frontenacs where he put up 94 points (32 goals, 62 assists), 22 penalty minutes and was a plus-23. He went on to add 14 points in eleven playoff games.

The 2022 NHL Entry Draft will get underway on Thursday, July 7th at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
