Apparently, being a two-time Stanley Cup Champion and a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation's Hall of Fame doesn't mean much to the Czech Ice Hockey Federation. Goaltending legend Domink Hasek not only lost in his bid to become the President of the CIHF this weekend, he finished third out of three candidates and far behind the top two.

Winning the election was Alois Hadamczik, a long-time coach and former head of the Czech Men's National Team. He took 31 of the delegates' votes. Coming in second was Jiri Slegr, a member of the 2002 Stanley Cup winning Detroit Red Wings along with Hasek. Slegr managed 17 votes. Hasek brought up the rear with five.

One has to wonder whether Hasek's recent tirade against Russian players may have something to do with him getting so little of the available votes. Hasek called on the NHL at least twice to ban any Russian players currently in the league, and to put a moratorium on new signings due to the country's conflict with Ukraine (you can read more about that here.. While most fans seem comfortable with Russia being banned from international competitions, very few are in favour of barring players at the NHL level. His words seemed to gather little support.

Besides the two Stanley Cups, Hasek won six Vezina trophies as the NHL's top goaltender, and two Hart trophies for being voted the league's Most Valuable Player.
