The women's u18 World Hockey Championship came to a close last night after an exciting match between Canada & the US. The Canadians looked to be in control halfway through the game, and some thought they had it in the bag. However, those pesky Americans wouldn't succumb easily.

The scoring started when Alexia Aubin redirected Ava Murphy's slapshot passed USA G Annalies Bergmann to go top shelf:

The remainder of the first would be a chess match in which no one secured the upper hand. Not until Ava Murphy, once again, hammered one into the USA goal to make it 2-0 a little over halfway through the middle frame:

Starting to think this Murphy individual might warrant extra defensive coverage...

The Canadians would crack on shortly after to extend their lead to three, when Jocelyn Amos jumped on a loose puck off the rush.

At this point, with the Canadians in the driver's seat it did not look as thought the Americans would be able to overcome the deficit. To this point in the match, shots were even aside, but Canada G Mari Pietersen looked unflappable. Thing would change in a hurry, though. Seven seconds to be exact:

The Americans would pour it on in the final period with ten shots on the Canadian goal. The ice was tilted, and if not for a perfect frame from Pietersen we may have witnessed extra time. However, the Canadian women would hold onto their 3-2 lead and secure Gold for the sixth time & exact revenge for the 2019 championship where the US won the last time these two faced off. The 2020 tournament was called off early due to the COVID pandemic, and the 2021 tournament was postponed until now. So the anticipation must have been serious.

Congratulations to the Canadian u18 Women's Hockey Team on their Gold Medal!
