A first-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens has taken home the award for the Most Valuable Player in the Western Hockey League (WHL) playoffs. Defenceman Kaiden Guhle scored eight goals and added eight assists in 22 playoff games to help the Edmonton Oil Kings capture the WHL championship. It was Guhle's second championship in a row.

Guhle is a former first-overall pick of the Prince Albert Raiders. In his first full season with the team, it won the Ed Chynoweth Cup as the WHL champions. He was traded to Edmonton part way through the 2021-22 season as the team looked to make a run to the Championship.

Guhle was taken 16th overall by Montreal in 2020. He made a strong impression at the Canadiens 2021-22 training camp, but the decision was made to keep him in the WHL until he was ready to take a regular spot in the top six. He did play some games for the Laval Rocket when the WHL was shut down due to COVID-19.

Besides being named playoff MVP, Guhle was also awarded the WHL's Central Division's Defenceman of the Year.
