According to NBC Sports Sheng Peng, the San Jose Sharks have narrowed their general manager search down to three to five candidates. Among the remaining candidates includes former Shark Ray Whitney and NHL Network analyst Kevin Weekes.
All of the candidates underwent interviews that were reportedly 4-6 hours in length, and it may be somewhat surprising that Whitney is still in the running considering he does not have a lot of front office experience. Whitney did play 22 seasons in the NHL, before becoming a scout for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2018.
The Sharks have only had two full-time general managers in their time in the league, Dean Lombardi and Doug Wilson. It is possible that Weekes or Whitney could end up being the third soon, as the team will likely want to make a decision before the 2022 NHL Draft.
