Cale Makar has taken the hockey world by storm ever since entering the NHL during the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. His smooth skating, two-way game is something to marvel at and he took a big step this season in solidifying himself as one of, if not the best defenceman in the National Hockey League right now.

During the intermission of Game 4 between the Avalanche and Oilers earlier this week, Wayne Gretzky compared Cale Makar to Hockey Hall of Famer Bobby Orr, who everyone knows is considered one of the best defencemen to play the game.

When talking about Makar, Gretzky said, "The closest player we've ever seen offensively and defensively that can make an impact on the game that much is Bobby Orr.

That is certainly some high praise for the 23-year-old, who is in his third full season with the Colorado Avalanche. Makar has played a big role offensively throughout the regular season and playoffs. In 77 game during the regular season, he put up 86 points, while in fourteen playoff games, he has 22 points.

Makar still has a lot of years left in the NHL and likely plenty of Norris Trophies under his belt by the time his career his over. He finished second in Norris voting last season and Makar will find out on June 21st if he has won the first of his career.
