Two years, 11 months, and one day ago the Toronto Maple Leafs traded Nazem Kadri & Calle Rosen to the Colorado Avalanche for Tyson Barrie & Alex Kerfoot. Barrie, now with the Oilers finds himself toe-to-toe with the guy for whom he was traded.

Now, Nazem Kadri is helping lead the Colorado Avalanche in their Stanley Cup conquest over Barrie & the Oilers. Barrie has four points in 13 games while Kadri has 11 points in 11 games for the Avalanche, including three assists through two periods of Game 2. It's obvious who the better player is in hindsight.

This is no slight to Barrie, who is still a productive member of the Oilers blue line. But his 41 points this season are simply dwarfed next to Kadri, who scored 87 points in 71 games. And for a considerable portion of the season he had earned premature Hart Trophy consideration. Even when you consider Wins-Above-Replacement & other analytics terms, Kadri is a far superior player. And from what I recall, at the time he was also considered a far superior player as well...

Kadri is going to cash out in free agency this summer. The 31-year old unrestricted free agent is certain to be a hot commodity if the Avalanche don't sign him before July 1.
