Per the 32 Thoughts blog by Elliotte Friedman, all is quiet on the Campbell / Toronto front. Friedman writes that at least one source has reported that the two sides were so far apart that talks are no longer relevant. He said that there hasn't been any dialogue for months.

Jack Campbell's agent, Kurt Overhardt, confirmed that 'there's been no material contract conversation since the end of the season.' This is relatively unsurprising given a) how well Campbell played this season & b) how little the Maple Leafs have to spend. No secret that the Leafs have salary cap trouble.

Per CapFriendly, the Leafs have $7.8 million to spend next season. Pierre Engvall, Colin Blackwell, Ondrej Kase, Ilya Mikheyev, Rasmus Sandin, Timothy Liljegren, & Ilya Lyubushkin are all free agent skaters. Campbell is the only goaltender, so the Leafs still retain the services of Erik Källgren & Petr Mrazek. However, it is highly doubtful that they don't seek outside talent to replace Campbell should he leave to free agency. However, the odds do not look good. Latest reports are that Campbell & his team are asking $5 million AAV with reasonable term. A number the Leafs simply cannot accommodate, so the chances Campbell is in the Maple Leafs' crease next year are astronomically low.
