No player in the NHL's post season will ever use it as an excuse when they're eliminated. But, the playoffs combined with a long regular season take a physical toll. With the Calgary Flames now officially out of the running, we're hearing of some major injuries that one of their key defencemen was dealing with.

"What a gutsy performance by Chris Tanev who played with a torn laberum [labrum], separated shoulder and had a sprained neck," said reporter Rick Dhaliwal.

"Surgery next week."

Tanev played in all 82 regular season games for Calgary, as well as another eight in the playoffs. We're likely to hear of a few more injuries to Flames players soon after the 4-1 series loss at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers in the second round.
