In the first game of the day in Tampere, Great Britain took on Latvia in what was a fairly entertaining affair. Great Britain led 2-0 and 3-1 at points throughout the game, but got into penalty trouble as the Latvians came back to win the game, 4-3.
Latvian netminder Elvis Merzlikins was pulled after the third goal by Great Britain, but it appears that it may be due to injury. Merzlikins went right to the locker room and did not return, with third goaltender Gustavs Grigals coming onto the bench as the backup.
Latvia's goals: Oskars Batna, Andris Dzerins, Rihard Bukarts, Janis Jaks.
Great Britain's goals: Brett Perlini, Cade Neilson, Lewis Hook.
Meanwhile over in Helsinki, Germany faced Kazakhstan in a back-and-forth contest. Kazakhstan opened the scoring and held a 2-1 lead, but Germany fought back and scored three straight to go up 4-2. The Kazakhs then scored two goals to tie the game at 4-4, but Yasin Ehliz scored the game-winner with over twelve minutes left in the third.
Germany's goals: Daniel Fischbuch, Jonas Muller, Lukas Reichel, Yasin Ehliz, Leonhard Pfoderl.
Kazakhstan's goals: Pavel Akolzin, Roman Starchenko, Nikita Mikhailis, Yegor Petukhov.
