After parts of four seasons in the Winnipeg Jets organization, 2017 first round pick Kristian Vesalainen is reportedly set to return to Europe, according to Johan Svensson of Expressen.se.

Svensson says that Vesalainen has already agreed to a contract with the Malmo Redhawks in the Swedish Hockey League. The signing will reportedly become official next week.

Note: the following is translated from Swedish.

"It is clear that I have control over Vesalainen. But I do not really have much more to say than this right now. We'll see what happens," says newly-appointed Malmo general manager Bjorn Liljander.

The Helsinki native spent the majority of the 2021-22 season in the National Hockey League with the Jets. In 53 games, he put up three points (two goals, one assist), six penalty minutes and was a minus-eight. Vesalainen also appeared in seventeen games this season in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose, where he had six points (three goals, three assists).

Vesalainen is set to become a restricted free agent this summer. If the Jets submit him a qualifying offer in July, he will remain a part of the organization, if they don't, he becomes an unrestricted free agent and can sign anywhere if he wants to return to North America.
