The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed Joonas Korpisalo to a one-year deal worth $1.3M.

It was a rough season for Korpisalo & many believed he would be explore the open market, so this news is a little surprising.

The goalie market of the NHL is extremely hot & extremely cold. It is almost weird. On one hand the demand for goalies has never been higher, whereas on the other there's such a hesitancy to pay top dollar for them. As a result, the Edmonton Oilers, a supposed 'contender' field a 40 year-old Mike Smith every game while a bevy of net minders could be had. The UFA market this summer will feature some interesting names:

Ville Husso (STL)
J̶o̶o̶n̶a̶s̶ ̶K̶o̶r̶p̶i̶s̶a̶l̶o̶ ̶(̶C̶B̶J̶)̶
Marc-Andre Fleury (MIN)
Mikko Koskinen (EDM)
Darcy Kuemper (COL)
Thomas Greiss (DET)
Jack Campbell (TOR)
Brayden Holtby (DAL)
Casey DeSmith (PIT)

There are options to be had in free agency, but at what cost? Goaltending is a tricky position. No position is more critical to team success than goaltending. However, signing goalies to big money deals is a cautionary tale. Carey Price's eight-year, $10M contract being the epitome. So when a goalie shows the slightest bit of decline, GMs are wary of him. At any rate, cross one off the list, and I'm sure with the number of teams who need goaltending there will be some big tickets signed this summer.
