On Friday it was confirmed that Slovenia won the Division 1A tournament and would be promoted to the top division for the 2023 IIHF World Hockey Championship. What wasn't known at the time was who would finish second and join Slovenia in getting promoted.

After a six-year absence, Hungary has been promoted to the top division of the World Championship. It will be only their third appearance at that level since the 1939 World Championship.

Hungary gained promotion on Saturday after Lithuania defeated Romania in regulation.

The Hungarian national team last participated at the top division of the World Championship in 2016, where they also earned their first win at that level since 1938, as they defeated Belarus, 5-2.

With Hungary and Slovenia going up to the top division, two teams will be relegated to Division 1A, as is the case every year. The last place team in each of the two groups at the 2022 World Championship will be relegated, and those two teams will be known on Tuesday, May 24th.

Congratulations to the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation on this massive accomplishment.
