Last week, it was reported that the Ottawa Senators were seeking to co-host the 2023 World Junior Hockey Championship with Quebec City. The tournament would have been split between Ottawa's Canadian Tire Centre and Quebec City's Videotron Centre.

In an initial report from La Presse, it also mentioned that the Senators were also potentially going to play a handful of their regular season home games at the Videotron Centre.

The Senators were not happy with that being reported, and denied that was ever the case.

Flash forward to today (April 6th), and now it appears that the Senators have completely shifted their focus to hosting the tournament solely in Ottawa, rather than partnering with Quebec City.

According to Bruce Garrioch of The Ottawa Sun, the Senators have partnered with Ottawa Sports and Entertainment for a bid for the 2023 World Juniors, which was originally supposed to be held in Russia. Along with Canadian Tire Centre, the city would also use TD Place Arena, home of the OHL's Ottawa 67's and has a capacity of 9,500.

As for the reason why Ottawa pulled out of a potential bid with Quebec City, it was due to the awkwardness following the report from La Presse stating the Senators would hold home regular season games in the Quebec capital.

Quebec City is still in the running, Garrioch added. He said that they've turned their attention to partnering with Trois-Rivières.

Other cities looking to host the tournament are: Halifax/Moncton, Vancouver/Victoria, London/Kitchener, and Regina/Saskatoon.
