The Carolina Hurricanes can be the first team in the Metropolitan division to grab a playoff spot if they defeat the Buffalo Sabres in any fashion AND the Dallas Stars defeat the New York Islanders in regulation.
Meanwhile, the Colorado Avalanche can become the first team in the Western Conference to clinch a playoff berth if they get at least one point against the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight.
Both games are set for 7 p.m. ET, so we should know around 9:45 p.m. ET if they clinched their spot, or if they'll have to wait another day.
