The record for the most consecutive games played in the NHL will end at 989 games. There has been speculation since Wednesday that Keith Yandle of the Philadelphia Flyers might not play Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs when it was announced he was not at practice due to an illness. Flyers head coach Mike Yeo announced Saturday that Yandle would indeed be held out of the lineup, but he's being made a healthy scratch.

"PHI coach Mike Yeo confirms Keith Yandle will not play tonight," said Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on Twitter. "Consecutive-games streak ends at 989. Hell of a run for Yandle."

It appears with very few games left in the season that Philadelphia wants to give some younger guys a chance to see where they are in their development before next season begins. It's understandable, but still a shame that the longest Iron Man Streak in NHL history has to end this way.

With Yandle's streak ending at 989, Arizona's Phil Kessel has a chance at overtaking the record, although he'll have to wait until next season to get there. He currently sits at 968 games. Doug Jarvis sits in third place with 964 games. In fourth place is Patrick Marleau, who is still considered active as he has never officially announced his retirement. His streak remains in tact as he is not under contract. The next closest active player is Brent Burns of the San Jose Sharks at 664 games, well behind Kessel and Yandle.
