The Ottawa Senators announced on Sunday that they've agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with top prospect Jake Sanderson. The contract will kick in immediately, meaning Sanderson will burn the first year of the deal and report to Ottawa at some point this week.

"We're very pleased to get Jake under contract," said Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "An important cog to our future on defence, Jake is an effortless skater who possesses all the tools to be a complete NHL defenceman. A mature leader despite his young age, he played big minutes in college with a blend of poise and confidence. While he still has progress to make in overcoming a current injury, we are hopeful of seeing him in our lineup before the end of the season."

Sanderson, 19, spent the last two years playing for the University of North Dakota (NCAA). In 23 games this season, the Whitefish (Montana) native had 26 points (eight goals, eighteen assists), six penalty minutes, and was a plus-five.

He also represented the United States at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing China. In one game, he recorded one assist, and was a plus-one. Sanderson was delayed in getting to Beijing due to a positive COVID-19 test and then in the only game he played in the tournament, he suffered an injury.
