Hot on the heels of Finland's Jokerit Helsinki withdrawing from the KHL playoffs over Russia's invasion of Ukraine, another team has announced it's taking itself out of the league.

"The decision has been made to leave the KHL, which expresses a clear position of the club's management," said the Chair of Dinamo Riga, based in Latvia. "In such a military and humanitarian crisis, we see no possibility for cooperation with the KHL."

Latvia's Hockey Federation has also released a statement urging the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to exclude Russian and Belarusian hockey federations from the organisation. Exhibition games against both countries have also been cancelled prior to the World Championships in Finland.

Riga has been in the KHL since 2008. It would not have been taking part in the league's upcoming post-season as it did not qualify.
