The Russian invasion of Ukraine is causing sports teams across Europe to cut ties with sponsors. English Premier League club Manchester United announced this morning that they were ending a sponsorship deal with Russian airline Aeroflot. In the hockey world, KHL club Jokerit Helsinki has decided to withdraw from the playoffs due to the invasion.

EV Zug, a team in Switzerland's top division, National League, announced in a statement this morning that they were cutting ties with their sponsor, Nord Stream, which is a Russian pipeline.

Note: the following was translated from German.

"In view of the events and developments of the past few days, the EVG and Nord Stream AG have decided to suspend the sponsoring partnership until further notice, although there is no international or national legal requirement to do so.

The EVZ will remove the various Nord Stream AG logos. Due to delivery times, this will sometimes not be possible immediately."

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has also caused leagues and sporting events to be postponed or moved. The Ukrainian Hockey League has cancelled the rest of their 2021-22 season due to martial law being imposed by their government. Meanwhile, the IIHF is set to meet on Monday to discuss how they'll deal with the fallout of the invasion. Russia is set to host the 2023 World Juniors and 2023 World Championship, but those will likely be moved to other countries.
