It turns out the rumours were true after all. After a ton of speculation that Vincent Lecavalier would be joining the Montreal Canadiens' front office, and Lecavalier himself denying the rumours, the Habs have officially announced he's joined the team. However, it won't be in an assistant GM role as was first thought.

"Montreal Canadiens general manager, Kent Hughes, announced on Friday the following appointments to the hockey operations department: Nick Bobrov has been hired as co-director of amateur scouting, and he will perform these duties along with Martin Lapointe; and Vincent Lecavalier has been appointed as special advisor to hockey operations." - News release from the Montreal Canadiens.

Lecavalier played 17 seasons in the NHL, most with the Tampa Bay Lightning, although he also spent time with the Philadelphia Flyers and LA Kings. He is a Stanley Cup champion, winner of the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy, and has his number 4 retired by the Bolts.

Bobrov joins the organization after six seasons as Director of European Scouting with the New York Rangers between 2015 and 2021, a position he also held with the Boston Bruins between 2001 and 2006. Bobrov will oversee the draft department together with Lapointe, who remains director of player personnel and co-director of amateur scouting.

Speculation on Lecavalier joining the team started to mount once Kent Hughes, Lecavalier's former agent, was hired as the Habs' new GM. It increased when former teammate and friend Martin St. Louis was named head coach of the team.
