During a media briefing at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, IIHF President Luc Tardif announced some of the details surrounding the rescheduled World Junior Hockey Championship.

The 2022 World Juniors were originally cancelled in late December following COVID-19 cases causing games to be forfeited.

"It will be in the middle of August in Alberta. It will be a new competition, which means we forget the results (in December)," Tardif said.

He added, "We are talking with all participants and are negotiating on details. It will be after the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. It will be a hockey festival and the teams are excited to do it."

Just before the tournament started in December, the IIHF announced that there would be no relegation for the 2022 event and that the 2023 World Juniors would be played with eleven teams as Belarus was promoted from the Division 1A tournament earlier in the month.

Now it appears that plan will be scrapped. The loser of a best-of-three series be relegated to the Division 1A tournament in 2023, while Belarus will replace them in the top division.

Specific dates and venues are expected to be announced at a later date, but it's possible that the tournament remains in Edmonton and Red Deer.

The IIHF also announced that events cancelled in January have been rescheduled as well, including the Women's U18 World Championship, which will be played in the United States.
