New York Rangers fans were given a heartfelt revelation recently when veteran left winger Chris Kreider shared that he struggles with anxiety.

Hockey players are supposed to be tough. They're supposed to play through anything and everything. But there's sometimes stuff you can't necessarily see, stuff that's not physical. I've personally dealt with anxiety, and it's a common thing. When you're in it, you feel like you're on an island, going up and down. I don't think it was until the last few years where I realized how many people are experiencing it or have experienced it.
Hearing this from a 12-year veteran prior to the Shoulder Check showcase charity game on Thursday, honoring that cause brings the reality that mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of how rich or famous they are. It's a powerful reminder that struggling with anxiety is nothing to be ashamed of.
#NYR players Chris Kreider, Jonathan Quick & Matt Rempe will be taking part in Shoulder Check Showcase charity event Thursday in Stamford, CT.

Here's the "powerful, touching" story behind it all, with stick taps to Dave Maloney & Rob Thorsen 👇
In our beloved sport, mental health has taken a back seat to physical resilience, so hearing him say this is a step in the right direction for the tight-knit community we all love to be a part of. His story is a reminder that even the best athletes can face those invisible battles.
