Forward Milan Lucic has officially broke the silence about his struggles on his mental health during his four years with the Calgary Flames.

The 32-year old mentioned in today's exit interviews just how hard it has been not being able to live up to the expectations that were put upon him when he signed a 7-year $49 Millon Dollar deal in the summer of 2016 with the Edmonton Oilers. Then in July of 2019, he was shipped over to the Flames for fellow underwhelming forward James Neal , after seeing his numbers fall from 55 points in his lone season with the L.A. Kings to 34 with the Oilers during the 2018-19 season.

With the Flames, his numbers continued to dip to where he only put up only seven goals and 19 points in 77 games this season, which is far from the player he gained a reputation for being during his years with the Boston Bruins.

Lucic Breaks the Silence

Lucic stated in today's exit interviews that he had contemplated retirement on various occasions during his stint in Calgary, after losing his love for the game. However, he was grateful for the Flames fans that helped him through his tough times during his four years with the team.

"It wasn't fun... and it got to a point for me when it wasn't fun coming to the rink anymore and all that type of stuff," admitted Lucic. "It was tough at one point... but that's why I'm thankful and grateful to have the people around me that I've had here in Calgary."

Now that his 7-year contract has officially ended, Lucic will be looking for a new beginning somewhere else around the league to prove he can still be an NHL calibre player.
