Heartbreaking announcement confirmed for Jack Edwards

Jack Edwards has been the voice of the Boston Bruins for almost 20 years, and tonight he will officially broadcast his final game for NESN and retire.

Love him or hate him, Jack Edwards is one of the quintessential hockey broadcasters - he speaks his mind, and isn't afraid to hurt feelings. He's been engaged in consistent controversy for his entire career, which only makes fans love him more. One of the most beloved sports characters in New England, he will leave behind a legacy of incredible calls, and community involvement.

Unfortunately for Boston Bruins fans, the end is coming sooner than expected, as ABC holds unique broadcasting rights for game 7, if there is one against the Toronto Maple Leafs. That means that tonight's game six, where the Boston Bruins could clinch a ticket to the second round against the Florida Panthers, will be Jack Edwards's final ride ahead of retirement.

Tonight is the final game for Jack Edwards. ABC has exclusive rights if there's a Game 7.

Jack Edwards made headlines last game by calling referee Steve Kozari a coward:

Jack Edwards sent an emotional message to his co-broadcaster Andy Brickley last night, knowing that the end was near:

«You don't find out who the best teammates are when champagne is dripping off your ceiling. You find out who the best teammates are when the times are tough.»

Whether you hate the Boston Bruins, or live and breathe the Spoked B, the NHL won't be the same without Jack Edwards.

Hats off to an incredible career.
